Scutum question
#1
Salve all,
I have a question regarding scutum. Before the fires of vulcan come raining down on me for even suggesting them, let me clarify that I know museum replicas stuff tends to be either way off or downright fantasy and generally regarded as "things to avoid". I did notice that MRL have some scutum on their website though that i'm not too sure about;as follows:

http://www.museumreplicas.com/museumrep ... spx?ID=897

http://www.museumreplicas.com/museumrep ... spx?ID=898

http://www.museumreplicas.com/museumrep ... spx?ID=899

How accurate are these, if at all???

They're pretty bad. The basic shapes are sort of OK, but beyond that - the rims are all wrong, the colour scheme is improbable, and the cavalry shield is not terribly practical for horseback riding (though it would make sense as a Republican scutum).

This must be where Hollywood shops.

Pretty much.
They were the vendor (I read somewhere) that supplied the gear for HBO's ROME

Fantasy. Complete junk.

There's really no point in ever looking at MRL/Windlass "ancient" stuff. I used to say that their products were at least a little better than what you see in movies, but now even that is no longer true! If they ever do manage to come up with something usable, believe me, the world will know about it pretty quickly. Until then, even the bad stuff from Deepeeka is better than this!

All good truths are brutal.

For the cost of one of those scuta you could make about 6 of your own authentic ones.
