Not sure of the details regarding the artefact which Len based this on ...

I haven't seen this particular design before, but clasp knives are reasonably common finds.

The handles (afaik) are usually bone, ivory or antler. The example found in the Severan fortress at Carpow, for instance, had no surviving handle (PDF of report here, see item 17 on pp. 555/556 = 75/76). A bronze handle would probably be rather prestigious.
