Our year-planner always looks poorer without the word 'Chester' on it!
We loved doing national archaeology day in your amphitheatre & Paul Harston always organised/looked after everybody very well.
We even miss the racecourse events
It's true! I must admit I used to find the race days very entertaining... people getting absolutely smashed on cider and starting a punch-up to take away the pain of losing vast amounts of money on the racecourse, or people getting absolutely smashed on cider and starting a punch-up to celebrate winning vast amounts of money on the racecourse.
It made us feel homesick for Essex!
Seriously... We had some great shows there with you guys... because as animated as the race-goers got, they always appreciated a good show and roared approval at Romans getting killed in the arena - I had can of Special Brew thrown at me when I killed the young heroic retiarius, Now that's what I call audience reaction!!!!
Mind you, we laughed at the memory of you guys coming to Flag Fen that year... when we had planted a 'troublemaker' in the audience for dramatic effect... your centurion didn't realize he was a plant (the message hadn't reached him that it was all part of the show) ... and decked him with a firm punch when he ran onto the arena... VERY funny and it made it all more realistic!
