There were definitely round shields in the Bronze Age; some of them "full-height". But, as Todd said, the Schliemann one isn't a shield, it was a tray or basin of some kind. A similar tray was found with the Dendra Panoply. My book has a chapter on Bronze Age shields and an appendix specifically discussing the shields in the Iliad. IMO Homeric shields were circular, including the large one carried by Hektor.
