I made my wool femenalia with a front opening - fastened with one simple wooden toggle.

Who says you have to wear feminalia AND subligaria? I would think people who most often wore only a sub and tunica would not see the need for more coverage. "Undies" when it's warm and trousers when cold.
I made mine with a lace up placket like old style football pants.

Quote:Who says you have to wear feminalia AND subligaria? It IS adviseable! One of new guys last year was in the display arena and his femenalia's undercarriage just gave out! it was like the bomb doors of a WWII plane opening! He had to be very choosy about which manouvers he could complete without frightening the children, women and horses!

You think you've got problems! Try going to an official English Heritage portaloo whilst wearing a Toga

Ah, when wearing my toga I always wear hobnailed boots. However, I don't wear the toga for long periods so there is no chance of needing to cope with it in a portaloo.
I strongly suspect that actual Romans wearing full sized togas (as opposed to the cheap little togas worn by plebs to qualify them to go into the forum) would also be accompanied by a couple of slaves who could help them on and off with them when they needed to be less encumbered. Crispvs

Quote:Well, it looked like a sausage anyway...I think :? shock: At Wrest Park EH insisted that none of the reenactors use the toilet facilities unless members of the public became confused at the sight of a fully attired and equipped Roman coming out of a 21st Century plastic toilet. Instead they gave us one loo 400 meters down a tree lined avenue. Simple solution - we used the tree lined avenue.

Ah, you just gotta love 'em  I always use the old argument "If the Romans had porta loo's 2000 years ago they would have used them", that's why I get away with my 12 Gauge pump action Pompeii shotgun
