Canteen Covers?
#16
Have tools, so guess its up to the ones who know these things....

Crispus? Peronis? Just the vexellum shape with the legion id in it? Thats my idea anyway.
And my initials on the other side somewhere
Visne partem mei capere? Comminus agamus! * Me semper rogo, Quid faceret Iulius Caesar? * Confidence is a good thing! Overconfidence is too much of a good thing.

I would be inclined to think that most soldiers would simply have untidily scratched their name and possibly their century on the side of the canteen if it was visible. If they wanted to dress it up they would probably have scratched a tabula ansata shape first and scratched their details inside that. That sort of thing would match with the usual very roughly done markings we see on equipment. A vexilum with initials doesn't seem right to me for personal equipment or possessions.
