I need a Greek Man and I need him now!
#31
LOL!

Actually my friend is well ahead of you on this one!

The premise is that the various ancient "Gods of War" are freed from captivity for an end-of-the-war battle.

Ishtar figures prominently. So does Aphrodite of Cytherea and Artemis of Ephesus, both are native dieties of Cyprus and Lydia that get syncretized to the Greek goddesses of Aphrodite and Artemis, but in their original native incarnation they also function as the goddesses of war.

(my friend is a big ancient geek fan too)

And after all, It wouldn't be a marvel comicbook without T&A.

Update : I mean "End of the World Battle" oops

I should also point out that i'm only doing the cover and character design for the Ares character. My friend is an artist and he's calling in a lot of favors from his friends. All of us are devoted amateurs (which means collectively we suck) but I have the most experience in classical art and male figures owing to my art history research, so I got that nod. Which is also a good thing.

If my wife finds pictures of skimpy clad men, I may have questions to answer, if she finds pictures of skimpy clad women well that's a different issue.

Look at the hair!

Is this real? or is like those novelty baseball caps with a pony tail attached?

Who are these guys? Any chance we can see any with the helmets off?

you should make the god's shield without the symbol (^) lambda.

I think stefanos can give you some advise on shield design...

i like the photo you post, but well its not my taste

Well if you intend to portrait the god richly armoured, then I think as a god & god of war, shouldnt not he be portrayed as king? very rich decorated?... but I think you can choose to portrait him evil, with gods symbols & creatures of the underworld, or as olympian.

in one book sed: represented as a vigorous god, protected with armour of bronze & shield that dismisses fire , always followed by demons of death &
discord .

Travis try photos from here www.hoplites.net .
I will help you with the shield design.

NOW:
I strongly resent jokes about blonds.
If it is wrong to "pick" on people on ethnic origin or religion why people of North European origins should be targeted :?: :?:

Jiust to demonstrate how bad it can be:

Who makes jokes about blonds? Those who have been jejected by them!
Why jokes about blonds are quick and simple? So that "*****" can understand them!
"*****" = any populatation group that someone wishes to offend.

Kind regards

OK, I'm sorry and I didn't mean to offend, but let's face it. Blondes get all the attention, all the accolades, all the magazine covers, I think their fair shoulders can handle it. No one is advocating 'a final solution' for blondes so I think it's all harmless fun.

I want to answer the "blondes" question as a representive of perhaps the "blondest race" on earth!

I think the origin of these "blondes" jokes originates in a cultural habit of some groups of women to dye their hair with vetysuperoxide. A good representative of this "hollywoodish" cultural phenomena is perhaps Mae West (also Marilyn?)! I think the roots of these opinions about blondes is to be found there...

"Why do blondes have just 5% more brain capacity than horses? That`s because this way they won`t shit on the streets on parades! "

Sorry, couldn`t resist  ...

Ok, here are the first fruits of my efforts and your contributions.

(update: fixed links)

More sketches here:

Some other unrelated ones

And after all this fuss, I'm pretty certain this is the end of the road for me.

Here is a sample of my conversation with Kirk, the author...

KIRK: (insisting I replace the spear/sword with some ridiculous 3ft wide sword with a jagged edge like you see in comics and videogames) we need to amp it up for market...

ME: Kirk, are you paying me?

KIRK: No.

ME: Am I your b*tch?

KIRK: No.

ME: Ok then,

KIRK: But...we need to amp it up for market.

(repeat 18 times until you hang up...)

So there it is, please enjoy! It was fun breaking out the sketchbook after what ammounted to a 12 year hiatus.

Just for comparison, here are some of Frank Cho's version of Ares for his upcoming "Might Avengers" series.

Love Cho, but I hate his version of Ares.

Be warned: This is a comic fans webpage so the topics pretty much center around boobs. Some NSFW stuff if you decide to wander around.

That is cool!

for comics they dont need to be accurate...

In fact my wife is a wonder woman fan, & here ares in her story is portrayed like this:

http://moviepoopshoot.com/comics101/ima ... 5/ares.jpg

As god who live fporever, you can make them with future suit, or past, since they are ancient gods..

I would finish my sketch after the pizza

Thanks Gioi,

Well our version wasn't going to be too accurate but I wanted something more classically styled.

That image of Ares in WW looks a lot cooler than Cho's.

(Wow! a wife that likes comic books! What find!)

The links above were broken, so I fixed them, here they are again.

I really like the medusa head, I think it turned out really nice. I still feel iffy about the others but they look better here than on my sketchpad.
