Quote:Crispus; in answer to your question, I had wanted to put together an early 2nd Century impression, possibly the first quarter. Like Fabius, I have a set of Newstead lorica (albeit still in production) and wanted to build my impression around it.
Interesting topic! To help visualize the early 2nd C. look vs. the late 2nd C. look, here's a shot of Theodosius (at left) and myself at a recent Scottish Festival (pardon the needlefelt swords, this was just before a battle with Gauls), both in Newsteads. As Crispus says, there is indeed an enormous difference between the two, with a veritable revolution in army equipment occuring in the Antoinine period (circa 140 AD). In this case, my impression is circa 120 AD, while Theo's around 190 AD.
In response to the original question of using a NM helm with an early 2nd C impression, the only problem I can really see is that the NM is dated by most experts to the 180-235 AD range.
