Quote:Cataphracts! If you have those, why do you need any other units?
Infantry and javelinmen for garrison duty, with an odd cataphract squadron added.
Archers to thin out resistance, especially when you come across heavy infantry that forms schiltrons and won't budge or run.
Horse archers to get close to the enemy fast, or as rapid reinforcement units.
My common strategy is to advance with an infantry line backed but light troops (mostly archers), and concentrate the cataphracts in one big wing (or two if I have 6 or more units on the field). The infantry closes with the enemy, the cavalry rolls up the flanks or, even better, smashes into the rear. That usually gets them running after 5 minutes of battle. So far I have yet to lose a land battle. My taxes are my main enemy, I simply have too many armies and I fear I'll have to cut down...
Apart from the fact that they're blue  I like the range of Sassanid forces well enough, although I wished they had regular cavalry too, not just horse archers and cataphracts.
