I'm now bankrupt and I cannot pay for legal help!
I looked at the book in the British museum to-day. The things I found mosr interesting (and there are many) are:-
a/ The leather scale thigh armour for cavalry
b/ The felt hat worn under the helmet as protection against "blunt trauma". Looks like a Phrygian hat with a long neck protector. In the context of a Roman helmet, makes a lot of sense to avoid some serious headaches after being hit by a sword/ stick/ pointy thing!

Cheers
Any reference to a mail hood and manica?

"and worth the price?"

Fo me, £95 was over the top as the big findsI have pics of elsewhere. However, it is a great and comprehensive tome that must be THE work on the Roman army of the period.

I didn't spot a mailed hood-indeed the author comments at how few helmets were found. Manicae- didn't spot a reference, but I could have missed it.

I'm still waiting for my copy. Oxbow surely has hired again the services of Michael Strogo(no)ff to carry my book. By now he must be still swimming across the Channel...
