That is how the Sheffield Fayre is run...
Free entry. There are LH areas and displays from Greeks and Roman through to WW2. The ACWS battles are supurb as are the WW2.
This is aside from the non historical and static displays such as flower shows and crafts and demonstrations, childrens entertainment, etc.
I don't know the set up, but money is probably made through the tradespeople, etc.
The biggest problem with the reenactment side, is that it clashes with Odyssey at Detling.
I heard some talk that this event is having financial struggles, which is confirmed here...
