We usually raise between $2000-$3000 a year, through three primary means.

First of all, we are a registered 501(3)© tax-exempt educational organization. We do school outreach visits monthly during the school year, usually charging $100 per 25 students in the audience or per class. Schools generally have an activity budget for this.

We also are frequently hired by museums as a part of an exhibition, either as docents or as a living history attraction for an ancient-themed event. I normally ask $500 for one of these.

Finally, we charge $25 member dues from each member, which raises a few hundred.

Our money all goes into a central fund, which we use to buy common items (for example, we have four complete loaner kits that are available for immediate use by a new member), as well as our new century signum.

So, school visits, museum appearances, and member dues net us between $2000 and $3000 per year.

Good luck.

To raise funds in the UK groups are generally hired by clients to put on a display/living history encampment. This goes into group funds and helps pay individuals to cover their expenses.

For US clubs becoming a 501c3 is a good idea.

Legio IX Hispana has done a number of educational displays and presentations over the years and we do not ask for a stipend from schools or museums or youth groups, but most institutions and organizations willingly donate a few dollars.

Write to schools and scout troops. Let them know that you are available.
