Well here are some pics of me in my armor. I know it looks kindof crappy, and so do I, but this is me. I hope it they show up.... Oh ya, I'm not wearing my balteus here, but I do have one. These pics were taken yesterday before the belt was finished. I might post more pics later.

Not bad Jared. How does that armour fit? It's definately usable...you've got a good start with that anyway.

It fits alright, the helmet it a bit funky with the brow guard being too high. I surprisingly had a bad Halloween dance....

Halloween is all but over now, just a few items to put away until next year.

As I mentioned in another thread our grandson decided that this year he wanted to be a Centurion and thus was the challenge put forth. Now nothing available in the costume shops would fill the bill so we were left to fabricate a costume as best we could. The over riding concerns: comfort and ease of wear for a 7 year old, budget -- as in very limited, and making it look as authentic as possible.

Unfortunately I think my vision exceeded my talent, but although the final result will not stand up to reenactment inspection, it did pass Kalani's inspection, if his smile was any indication.

Wow, for a young kid that would be the seetest costume ever! Only the sword confuses me...

Thanks!

Ah the sword...

Could not come up with a good looking gladius locally and could not get one ordered and shipped in time so fell back upon a very safe, if somewhat anachronistic Lego sword.

As time ran out we started making a few "creative compromises" but as Ed D Wood Jr. once said "My next one will be better."

Thanks again.

Whoa...Narukami, could you like adopt me as your long lost son and make me cool gear like that?! I'd have been thrilled with a costume like what when I was a kid! I thought my Red Baron and Indiana Jones costumes were pretty hotel sierra back then...Nice job!

yeah, the sword needs work, though Big Grin

How many people actually understood what he was dressed up as?

I ended up going "augustan" (trying on my maille, coolus and 2-belts for the firs time, sorry no pictures), and stood at the end of the driveway "on guard" - One parent approaching from behind me thought "is that a fireman or something?!" I guess the wide coolus helmet (it's an early gen. deepeeka Coolus F...Need to trim down the neck guard), sorta-kinda-looked like a fireman's helmet...I guess...But when he saw me a little better in what little light there was he said "Oops, no, something else...Like a Knight or something"

Yeah...Knight...I still get that...So'kay, I let it go for the evening Big Grin

A couple of years ago I went to a party in full Imperial kit. As I came up the front walk there was a drunken moron in a blow-molded plastic costume just like Russel Crowe wore. He drew his little plastic sword, poked it toward my chest and challenged this new "Gladiator" to a duel. The "point" of his blade make a whimpy little "tink" sound as it bounced off my seggie. He said "OOOH that's real!" at about the same time I backhand drew my Pompeii and said "So's this!".He wisely decided that we should be friends in the bonds of Rome and offered me a beer. Last month my seven year old son was wearing his new coolus with a stocking cap for a liner since it still a bit big on him. He pulled the knit cap down over his face. It reminded me of the Civil War soldiers in the movie "Night At the Museum". He could still see out, but it dehumanized him (not permanently). The effect was quite disconcerting.
