Did Thraex gladiator shields have horizontal or vertical handgrips.
I'd assumed it was horizontal similar to the larger scutum.

I found that for the fighting style of a thraex gladiator (Junkelmann typology) a vertical handgrip is much more appropriate.

If you have a look on this photo of the little Thraex statuette I had taken at the Kestner Museum in Hannover you could see that the handgrip is horizontal
