A late roman shield decoration made by Edern, one fellow member of my group Letavia. Modern dyes and paint were used.

The decoration is mostly inspired from:
- Hinton Saint Mary villa mosaics (4th century, Dorset)
- Santa Maria Maggiore mosaics (circa 430)
- Vergilus Romanus codex (5th century).
"O niurt Ambrois ri Frangc ocus Brethan Letha."
"By the strenght of Ambrosius, king of the Franks and the Armorican Bretons."
Lebor Bretnach, Irish manuscript of the Historia Brittonum.

That is very beautiful. Almost too beautiful to use in battle!

Nice paint job!

This example will be destroyed by veruta this season, but it looked nice when done.

Fratres,

Beautiful work! but your picture shows the interior,...the images no doubt would help to fortify the soldiers resolve in combat.

Is the exterior the same or plain? Or am I being dense tonight?

Thanks everyone! I'll forward the comments to Edern Big Grin

The exterior bears the twin red worms of our units, the Seguntienses, just like on my shield on my own avatar.

And this is going to be used in battle, but I doubt that the interior will get much damaged. Except if someone wants to try an angon or francisca at it

Challenge accepted. Will he be bringing it to Old Sarum?

Sure he will

But you may not dare throw something at him while he will be in his all-mightyness of a cucculus-clad gnom
