Crest holders / Sidon helmet
#1
Hello,

I'm wondering if there have been crest holders, similar to the pins used on imperial Roman helmets, found in a non-Roman, Greco-Hellenistic context.
The Sidon helmet would appear to have such a holder based on this frescoe : http://www.ancientbattles.com/thureopho ... phoros.jpg

Does anyone not think that the soldier is using a holder or pin to attach the crest ?

Thanks in advance.

I admit to not knowing much about roman attachments, but the horn-shaped projections on Tarantine and other Magna Grecian pilos helms are secured by a pin.

A Spartan, being asked a question, answered "No." And when the questioner said, "You lie," the Spartan said, "You see, then, that it is stupid of you to ask questions to which you already know the answer!"
