The Sixth can't stay all weekend due to a request from the officers mess at Catterick Garrison!Graham and the boys are giving a talk and demo on the Roman Army to the British Army Wink

All we have to do is pick the right god/gods and hope for good weather and remember to take some pics

I'm looking forward to it,its a great little site aimed at education and engaging with the public without the barriers re-enactment can sometimes throw up. This will be our first full joint show with the new cavalry group and should be a lot of fun.

We are not now that strength which in old days
Moved earth and heaven; that which we are, we are
One equal temper of heroic hearts,
Made weak by time and fate, but strong in will
To strive, to seek, to find, and not to yield.

There is only one true god Fasta - we are Late Romans and following the official state religion, remember. So of course the weather will be good

Feel free to do so Nigel and can I recommend a visit to the rarely open bath house or Governors palace site at the York Council 'West Office' which is open to the public that weekend,as well as the other Roman sites in York including the Roman Baths museum. Big Grin

Edited:For the past couple of weeks there has been an archaeological dig at the site of York City Council's new West Offices. If you're in York between 25-26 June you can visit the dig (which is just off Station Road where it passes under the city Walls, just to the left of the War Memorial).

It's the site of a large public or civic building, including baths. There will be lectures on the hour, every hour, from the excavation team. They will talk about the dig, background information, and discoveries.

The dig is open 10.00-16.00 on Saturday 25th June and 11.00=15.00 on Sunday 26th June

Hetaireia Palatiou will also be present, doing what we call "Toffs on Holiday", rather than primarily military.

Is there likely to be any scope for archery?

It looks as if it should be a good show. Unfortunately none of us will be able to stop in to chat as the Fourteenth are in Peterborough this weekend.
