Speculative Reconstruction of Seg Shoulder Leather
#16
Matt - no sweat! I would much rather have criticism than silence, and you were very polite. Marking the straps with the plates laid out flat was a suggestion I had read somewhere else, but I don't think I will be doing it again.

Brian - yes, the bolts are a temporary measure. I knew there would be mistakes along the way so I wanted something I could undo easily. Your suggestion about the clout nails is very interesting to me since I have been having a very hard time finding solid copper rivets - I will have to look into that more.

I'm a little bit less clear on your comment about washers -- you seem to be saying they are a bad thing, but I haven't been using any, so...?

Thanks,
-R

Ross.
I think it might be me making the mistake about washers for where you show the before and after pic's, the centre pic of those below is the one that appears to have given me the idea there was a washer between the two plates it's the head of a bolt now that I look again.
I also take your point about the bolts so you can work out the straps first, the reason I mentioned the clout nails they realy are so much cheaper and a countersink on the outside of the plates helps to get everything so neat and tidy on a finished seg'

I will definitely look into the nails, Brian. Thanks for the tip!
