Iron Age Shield-edging
#1
How accurate is bronze edging for Iron Age shields? I had thought this was a Roman only invention, but recently found out that edging has turned up over a long period of Celtic history. I would like to strip of the rawhide edging from my British Invasion period shield and instead apply bronze edging, but I' m still a bit unsure.

The National Museums Scotland have a piece of bronze shield edging from Traprain Law Hill Fort east Lothian, so I think you would be safe to go ahead with bronze or indeed brass for such edging.

I'm looking at Britain circa 1stC AD. My shields have iron bosses, for example.
