Painted Leather?
#16
Does anyone foresee a problem with painting black-dyed boots brown ?

It's funny - I have black dyed shoes I want to paint brown AND brown-dyed shoes I'd like to paint black

BTW, thank you everyone for your responses. I wasn't expecting so many would answer 8) I do also plan to paint a belt and baldric red.

Mithras, I'd like to paint my LR boots black as well, but I also use them for late 2nd century. I wonder if black boots are known to have been worn that far back. Graham Sumner's books don't seem to indicate that they were. Otherwise, I'd do it

If in doubt leave them brown Theo, I've never seen anything but brown footwear in the 3rdC and 2nd century, myself.
