Hello
#10
Oh, thanks, Crispus. I've looked in whenever time presented itself. Things have always seemed to be well in hand under Jasper's stewardship, and in my remote location (Egypt) my access was rather limited. Since coming to Florida, I've been further overwhelmed with my command duties -- but am resolving to carve out more time for res romanae.

When we discussed the movement of RAT from its original home at Ezboard -- which was really becoming too expensive of a host (and worse, the wonderful reference utility of RAT was threatened with extinction as Ezboard began killing the oldest threads off) -- the idea of using YaBB or a similar solution came up.

(Thread extinction, by the way, was a contributing factor to Sander's departure. I can't begin to express how disheartening it was to the original RAT veterans to have spent such great effort to research detailed posts -- even with notes and references -- and then to watch them start disappearing. Something desperately had to be done.

Migration was something that I knew I didn't have the technical know-how for, so I gave Jasper the green-light to webmaster the new RAT, as well as a much-needed upgrade of the original RomanArmy.com site. He and Christy have done a marvelous job -- and although the migration of old board threads is imperfect, it has been much more efficient than what I could have achieved with my own web skills. I firmly believe in the power of the team over the individual.

Jasper has always known his charter in creating RAT v.2, and I always knew that eventually I would be available to spend more time on our cooperative projects. We are also co-editors of a new academic journal, and since my time is still limited, I'll have to focus my energies mostly on that start-up. RAT is full-grown, but JAMS is still a baby in the womb -- Jasper's just dubbed me a "divine mom", lol, so I suppose the analogy is apropos.
Cheers,
Jenny
