PC Gaming with Rome
#16
I like to play pre-Marius army battles, and Roman infantry vs Phalanx army battles. Smile

I have not spent months gathering Hoplites from the four corners of the earth just to let
some Swedish pancake in a purloined panoply lop their lower limbs off!

Once me and a friend played a siege battle, on the (highly inaccurate) Rome map. The defenders, being The Greek Cities and the attackers Julii themselves. Now how does this make sense? Smile

I've had RTW for ages but haven't even installed it yet for various reasons. Being a big fan of playing online, but wary of Matt's warning about people deliberately dragging it out for hours, is there a way for two individuals to play privately online using one of their PC's as a server? At least that way you'd both get to agree to play a quick game without needing to go through one of the usual servers.

Oh yea, we could like get a ladder going here. Like me be blaaa, and tarbicus be bluuu, and susanne be blooo. The bl*** being defined static teams. We could do strict lans so we could have some quick or long games, time depending. If yall are interested I think that itd be awesome to have a ladder system.

Agreed on this being a great game. I too am partial to the RTR mod, more than the SPQR 5 mod. Guess I like the politics and city building. Big Grin

emj1s, RTR reskinned almost all of the units to confirm to appropriate clothing, got rid of "fantasy" units (flaming pigs, war women, etc.) evened the playing field for some of the "super"units, totally revamped the map to make it more historical, slowed down cavalry by quite a bit, etc. Anyway, worth a looksee and a download.

I just downloaded Rome, Total Realism. I then spent the entire day playing. WOW-what an improvement. If you have Rome Total War and were a bit disappointed in some of the inaccuracies, this goes a real long way in correcting that.

Its 162 MB file, but man is it worth it to get. My thanks to the guys and gals that made this file.

Thanks!!

Did anyone say 'mountain'?

This brings pleasant memories back to mind, of a battle 10 years into my first Julii campaign. It was featuring two Equites units who got ambushed on their way towards my main army, against three Greek Militia Cavalry armed with javelins. The map was rather hilly, but sneaking past the enemy cavalry, I gained a tremendous elevation bonus - the mountain was rather steep.

Each Militia Cavalry unit routed on impact as I charged my Equites on them. Smile
