Good luck.

I'll be in Thermopylae if you need me. Wink

I have not spent months gathering Hoplites from the four corners of the earth just to let
some Swedish pancake in a purloined panoply lop their lower limbs off!

The website can only cope with quite simple pictures. It's clear you've resized this one, so it might fit, now.

Aint mine I just aid friends to post!
The kylix on the shiled was the sign of Demos of Kropea-modern Koropi.
They probably held the center of the line in Marathon.

Where is the kylix shield device? Are you referring to the kantharos?

I like the pelte, with those evil eyes...

Apologies
Yes I mean the kantharos.
Thracians:
Eyes only on pelta Odryssians
Eyes with red mouth and white teeth Dioi. DanZ has done an excellent reconstruction.
Hoplon devices:
One eye on shield: PANTEPOPTES-the all seeing.
Used as "crusading"symbol in the "Holy Wars" against those who had usurped the Delphic Oracle and by the Athenians suppressing revolts of their allies.
Usually means -no mercy, no quarter!

Kind regards

Have you seen this? Is there any more detail on the construction, the find site and time frame?

Thanks

Yes I was lucky enough to touch it during our visit in the British Meusum. It is 5th century B.C. and comes from a donation of a private individual. They are trying to catlogue it and log it based on a German comperhensive catalogue containing very comperhensive info.
Kind regards

My first thought on looking at that was the snakes are symbolic of Athens.....???
The eages of Zeus are flying with the Spartan....for victory...

The enemy is less likely to get wind of an advance of cavalry, if the orders for march were passed from mouth to mouth rather than announced by voice of herald, or public notice. Xenophon
