Attila!
Seriously, we did a job at Butser Farm a couple of years ago, and they used a swarm of 20 semi-wild ferrets to keep the rabbit population under control. They are really cute, until they decide to swing from your finger using their teeth, or sneak into your sleeping bag with you at 3:00 AM!
You have been warned.

I suggest some kind of 'ferreting' name, which is kind of like engineering which reminds me of Vitruvius which (Vitruvius the Ferret) has a nice ring to it.
Or how about just something like Ferretius or Ferretinus perhaps with a Praenomen and Gens. Isn't there a family name Ferrens?
I always wanted to name a pet Sextus Julius Frontinus but my wife wouldn't let me - her rule of thumb is what would you be willing to yell from the doorway. So our cat 'Leonidas' gets Leo from most people!

Jasper,
is that an actual picture of your ferret? He's cute! :-) )
Pet names should be short and easily recognizable, so they learn to associate the Human growl with their being recalled. It work with dogs and horses (cats do not count, they will only come if they want, anyway)...
Following this spirit, another name: Tyr (considering how aggressive and fiery can all mustelids be if needed, a war god looks like a good idea anyway, uh?) Well, the Germans did eventually overcome Rome, it may be a fun pun (no pun intended : -)
Another great, short names, include Cyrus and Shapor... :-) )
laters!

Sooo cuuuute! I want THAT one!!!
(Actually, Jasper and I have not picked up our ferret yet. We have visited with the candidates, and we will go back in a few days to purchase him and his gear.)
However, we'll probably get a male with those same sort of markings.
