One this that was fairly well done I thought was the film's depiction of Germanic/Viking warrior culture. There was the right mix of ego-busting bravado and boasting with an edge of mortality throughout, as if these men knew they were putting on a show for others while knowing that they were only human. A far more intriguing take on the realities of the era in my opinion than the do anything, anywhere, any time superhuman heroes of the Sagas, as cool as they may be.
My favorite scene had to be where the Geats land in Daneland, pulling their boat unto the beach, then are challenged by the Danish warrior. There was something eerily real about that scene, as if it was simply another example of a scene that had been played again and again by our ancient ancestors. Perhaps it was a flashback to a memory of one of my Swedish ancestors
