No need, I know all that (well, not ALL of it), you should talk to Monty Python to change the scene...

Besides, you're right but you're also wrong, since the question was what the they (the Romans) had done for them (the Judaeans). NOT who invented all the stuff on your list.. Big Grin

I just can't resist any opportunity for Roman-baiting! (or - bashing)
- This despite the fact that I'm on The Dark Side (Romans) of The Vicus.

'Fraid so! - I was a Roman before I became a Greek; I confess I succumbed to the siren song of their so-much-sexier kit! There's also the fact that, despite their inability to unite, and their failure to defeat Rome, the Greeks are so much more attractive, as a nation and a culture, than the Romans. Not that I wish to be controversial or provocative, of course!

For sexier kit: Late Romans!
For an inability to unite, and a failure to defeat Rome: The Celts!

:? But the Celts defeated the Romans on several occasions, didn't they?
Like the time they had them bottled up on the Capitoline Hill and the geese gave away their night attack. And wasn't there that business about the Romans trying to buy them off and the Celts using dodgy weights to measure the gold? What was the phrase employed? "Woe to the vanquished!" wasn't it? And good old Connolly mentions something about the Roman phalanx being trampled into the ground (by Celts) at the Allia. Mind you, of course, if we look at all of Rome's history, we find them also being defeated by the Greeks...

All that aside, consider this: If you call to mind the great conquering nations of history, how many of them do you think would have been congenial companions in peacetime?

Very similar to Classical Greek: Nice hats (barring the very high-crowned ones), shame about the short muscle-cuirasses. The bronze triple-disc cuirass is cool.

I like Early Roman kit, too. The Lorica Segmentata has a certain functional appeal, but lacks the panache, the elan, the sheer style of these other armours.

[Edit] I'm sorry, I've been way off-topic for far too long; let's start a sexy-kit thread elsewhere.
