Sexy kit thread
#31
Thank you! It's certainly making an impression on the schoolkids. I'm in the process of making a low crest for another helmet, but it has 142 holes! Progress is slow! Does anybody know any method of speeding up the tying of the bundles of horsehair? I've broken both my hands in the past and find such fine work very uncomfortable.

Just wait till I finally manage to compile my Companion Calvaryman's kit; that will be, as they say, the cat's pajamas.

Anybody have linkage to someone who has already done this?

Nope. Have you got a horse, yet? I feel confident that no mere Alexandrian panoply can compete with a Classical one - especially where the latter has a high crested helm. What sort of headgear are you planning to use - a Boeotian? [Laughs in scorn]

Unfortunately the equine part is going to neccessitate that it'll be several years before I can do it. The family stopped keeping horses on the farm a few years ago, so I'll have to wait till I'm out of college and can do it on my own again. I'm not such a fan of the Boetian helm.

Phrygian or even attic is fine, too.Unfortunately you have to forget the king of helmets, the corinthian. But if you wish to spend your fortune for a good helmet, there are some incredible attic or combined helmets out there, that wait to be reproduced by manning or some few other armourers...

Yeah, Phrygian helm will be my choice for all things macedonian. I plan on having manning imperial make me one in real bronze eventually, which I can use for both Companion and sarissa infantry kits. You know, Persian-war era Greece is what roped me into classics, but the longer I've been in it in university, the more I become enamoured of all things macedonian.
