Quote:Hi Patrick,
Yes, it is. Pages 541 and 542. It is clear that Pflug isn't acquainted at all with Late helmets. His description and measuremetns are correct but he doesn't realize how important the preserved original linings and attachments are. Not to mention that camel hide locking-scale. If the cuirass is decently preserved, it will be a real 'unicum', showing the way the armour was 'tailored' hock:
Well, landing again. The book isn't detailed enough for what I would need. Somebody should go to Berlin and check the items, I'm afraid... hock:

Greetings aitor.
Also my wife will went to Berlin in January, i don't believe she will have a chance to look for the requested.
But perhaps there are more of the informations in the text then thought.
First: it's rebuild and conservated, it was pressed to flat and had to be restored (right word for restauriert?).
The inlay (is that what you wanted to know?) was made of goat leather but only a small rest survived.
Andso on. It's not the most detailed describtion i' ve ever seen, but most important is in.
So what kind of details you want to know exactly?

Hi everyone.
I am, actually, a real Berlin. But unfortunately, I live since 1999 in Jamaica.
My first thought would be to contact the institution by e-mail and ask them for some hi-res photos. They usually do this. The Antikenmuseum did certain archaeological co-operation in the past with me, as well (Aitor knows), for my maritime archaeological online database project.
And books if they can help you, can be received through the "long-distance rental system" from national libraries.
Greetings,
Sven

Daniele,
Yes I know of that crocodrile armour suit, many thanks! (
Tobias,
Thanks for your help ( How is the leather border guttering sewn. How are the metal attachments and hooks for the scale neckguard. How is constructed the scale neckguard. Overall and detail pics of the scale cuirass.
Sven,
Much better weather at Jamaica, isn't it?
Not a bad idea (
There is no other publication, except for an old paper. B. Schröder, Berliner Museen 43 (1922) pages 73 and following, Fig. 63
I don't expect too much of those old publications but surely the cuirass is depicted there 8)

Puh, that would be not that easy, cause as far as i know you aren't able to take pictures from to close or all sides.
I'll be in spring in Berlin next time for visiting museums isle after 7 years pausing.
If that time will be fine for you i ll try what i can make.
But perhaps someone else in here is from Berlin (not a big chance, cause very less eastern germans are in roman active).

So, i took a view in this magazin called Berliner Museen. It's a nice pretty and small overview about 12 or 16 musea in Berlin around the last century...
The text about Garara was about two pages and two very small pictures, one of the armour, one of the two helmets.
I've drawn the form of the armour, if you want it i can send it to you.
The informations aren't really new. The sizes were told and that the leather was uncut and also the armour used the edges to fold the leather about the cover.
The face guards of the first helmet were attached by leather strips / rings (dont know the exact translation of "Lederöse"...) while the neck guard used some of metal, which belongs to the theory of beeing brought later.
Schröder also see relationship between the armour and the painting of armour in the grave of Ramses IV.
And that was nearly all informations i was able to draw out.
Sorry.

Many thanks, Tobias.
I'd translate it as 'leather rings'
How is the cuirass, is it a complete one or just a breastplate? 8)
please, post your sketch here or e-mail it to bonnefoy ATeuskalnet DOTnet

Salve Aitor,
i ll scan the sketch this evening and send it per mail to you.
The armour wasnt complete, but only some parts, esp. of the scales were lost, the form was nearly complete.

I look forward to have a look at it!
Probably it is the best preserved surviving 'Roman' scale armour! hock:
