I dont get Pressfields answer.
Is he really replied '' yes i know that the Kaiadas thing is BS but i said it anyway cause its part of the Spartan folklore and it sells'' or is it my idea?

I think you guys are mistaken, and Stephen Pressfield was just making a comment on what is an actual fascination with the subject, which leads to authors making much use of it.

I saw it too. I think we know very well that most of the times myth is stronger than history. So the safest way to ''create'' history is to make up a myth. In few generations if you are really good nobody will remember the truth no matter how much somebody who knows the real thing shouts the truth in peoples faces. Rings any bell?

This is a disgrace to science. Why doesnt the historical community make this and other misconceptions clear.Why.....?

i wondered the same sometime ago but in the end i came to the conclusion that this happens for two reasons.

As scientists they cant have the arguement ''i didnt know'' to their defence so we are left with intentional acts of missguiding people. The way i see it this happens for two reasons sometimes closely related. Fame and money.
Some do it just for the valuable printed papers, while some do it in order to have the joy to see their name left in history. The second category is imo the worst cause they tend to believe their own fairytale and they sound more convinsing than the others. I mean really how many really breaking discoveries are unveiled the last decades? Surely there are alot we dont know but if somebody now wanted to be the new Evans he should discover Atlantis. I understand why some people borred to dust off statuettes or brushing little stones preffer to write books about how gay Alexander was, or how Spartans were a society of sadist gays (again  ) etc.

Are there any other historical sources that support Plutarch on this matter?

Yes the fact that only adult skeletons were found in kaiadas and the fact that nowhere is written that a infants were dropped or hurled in kaiadas. There is another writter a cant seem to remember and the fact that to no instill yourself of the miasma the gods have to kill the baby not you.The horrid thing about kaiadas were the adults thrown not infants as we mentioned above infants in sparta and the rest of greece that wouldnt survived would be exposed to the elemenents.Horrible thing but nothing to do with kaiadas or babies being thrown or hurled.

I emailed arcaheology today just in case they write and article on this.Still dissapointed that i saw no correction in any greek or foreign media other then an orthodox christian site in greek that mentions it along with the treatment of infants in the pre-christian world.Very dissapointed no academician reacts to this in books, documentaries or articles. An article on ospreypublishing about the event agains says babies were hurled in.Mercy.
