Hi guys,
I've recently decided to move to Roman reenacting. I was thinking of going for a mid-2nd centurion (serving in Marcus Aurelius army during his campaigns to Germania).
As I haven't got much experience in Roman weaponry (blame the bloody Aegean Bronze and Iron Ages! :-)
Helmet: Imperial Italic G
Armour: Lorica hamata
Sword: Pompeii gladius
Many thanks!

Many thanks Ivan! But why without the reinforcements?
Btw, is the rest equipment OK?
Cheers!

Cheers Adrian!
Is the Imperial Italic 'H' (Guttmann AG800) acceptable then?

Gosh, I expected a little bit more of feedback.
Many thanks to Faventianus and Peroni for their input. It's really surprising that they were the only two who could bother answering my questions.
I'm off this site for good...
To all my friends here, take care guys!

Sorry you fell that way. If I knew anything I would have told you what I knew. I think that most of the people on here do the same. Again sorry. The only recomendation I can give you is look at some of the Osprey books. Again sorry.

He didn't leave because only two people posted did he?
Adrian, I'm sure the itallic G would still be in use 20 - 30 or so years after it's found date...

Sorry guys I overreacted but yesterday I found out that one major grant proposal of mine was unsuccessful so I was really frustrated and angry. I shouldn't bring my anger and frustration to this community. My mistake...
Anyways, sorry once again and thanks for your useful comments.
Cheers,
Ioannis

It is not a case of simply not bothering. In spite of years of research it is not easy to suddenly come up with detailed instructions for a highly accurate kit just like that. It could in all honesty take weeks if not years to supply all the detailed information you might want.
Sure an easy answer would be to get an illustration from a popular book and say copy that but in many cases they are simple interpretations using equipment from all over the place. You would need to track down excavation reports from the sort of locations your character or his legion might be associated with. It is possible but it is not going to take two days!
If you are in a hurry then it would be far easier to be a first century Legionary from either Mainz or Vindonissa. Loads of original gear from both those places and well written reports of the finds.

I think that I am inclined to agree with Magnus Matt on the helmet, for to say it is Hadrianic in date it could have only been 12 to 15 years old at mid 2nd cetury. I do think that we have to be a bit more cautious with dating for one just can't say at 120 that goes out and this comes in, there had to at times a very large overlap with equipment.

Sorry to hear about your proposal. Keep your eyes up and your ears open, something else will come up I'm sure.
Your gear list looks pretty good to me.
