Leathering my scabbard complete!

Your drawings look very nice Sam.

A couple of things though.
As I said above, the long 'legs' on the two reconstructions depicted in my article are probably wrong. I only used those pictures because they were the only ones I could find of this type of locket plate. The actual plates all seem to have short legs which would only reach down as far as the upper cross hangers, meaning the lower cross hanger would not connect with any guttering. This might look odd to our modern eyes but it seems to be how the original may have been.

Secondly, although there should probably be scalloped extensions (the 'clam' you mentioned) on the guttering of the chape (based on the Long Windsor example) it does not seem likely, based on comparisons with other plates in this group that the locket plate had such scallops.

The legs should be short, like those of the other lockets in the group and should not feature scallops therefore.

Thanks guys! , I think I got what you mean now, the end of the short legs are hidden by the upper cross hangers, and the lower are just directly attached to the scabbard, nothing in between. I'll redraw it, if this is right I won't post another pic, and I'll work on the lower scabbard design, very simple though. Just, now that there are no clams at all...where will be the appropriate means to end the guttering at the upper part or the lower scabbard? Will it end right inline squared evenly with the cross bar? You know?

Ok, I'm slightly changing it now, so it's got very short legs, simpler cross hangers, ya..that's it really. Giving it a rest for today, update tomorrow.
