Rome: Total War II
A mysterious 9th faction space has appeared on the factions list with the Rally Point logo on it. It is thought that this new faction will be revealed in the next episode of Rally Point (a Youtube series from CA covering news about Rome 2).

There is speculation on the TWC forum that this could be either the Seleucids or the Kingdom of Pontus as a surprise 9th playable faction. Alternatively, they could just be announcing non-playable factions. We'll have to see.

Hopefully we can just edit the desc_strat file again to make all the factions playable.

Angered about the lack of Greeks but hey. At least we have Macedon.

Lewl. Again, hopefully R2TW will be mod-compatible. Most people agree that it's the job of the modding community to fix what the publishers screw up.

Egypt was just announced. There's all the factions. Why the Suebi I have no frickin clue, they weren't important until the 4th century at least.

They said something like 50 total factions, so we'll likely see 20 playable ones.

The Suebi, unimportant ?
Do you know of Ariovistus and Maroboddus and some what later the Marcomannic wars!?
The Suebi are not a single tribe but a tribal confederation of Marcomanni, Quadi, Longobardi, Semnones and many smaller tribes.
Suebic groups were important from the late Republican until the migration period.

Hmm, well I stand corrected on that. But for most of this Game's history something like the Cimbri would have been a better choice.

The Cimbri like the Cheruscii were important only for a short period.
After the assasination of Arminius the Cheruscii did not exist long as a independent tribe.
The Cimbri were a very minor tribe after the Romans defeated them.

The Suebi is a very good choice for a germanic faction by CA.
Regarding the Gauls the Averni are also a good choice.

I don't think the Iceni are a good choice for a Britisch faction.
Personally I prefere the Brigantes, Caledoni or Catuvaulani

Boudica. That's the ONLY reason they picked the Iceni. Remember, they have to appeal to "popular history", even if it's not very fitting or accurate, unfortunately.

And yes, the Suebi had probably the best ratio of importance and time. Heck, the Duchy of Swabia was even important in the Medieval HRE! Although then again they were mostly of Alemannic blood by that point, but, then again, the Alemanni and Iugunthi may have actually been Suebi. :dizzy:

I hope they include the Frisii. They're my favorite Germanic Tribe.

@Gesith the Alamanni/Iuthungi were different from the Suebi.

I also hope to see the Atrebates (In Arras) and the Helvetii (in Switzerland) included.

Well, at least it looks like Egypt is portrayed as a Successor Kingdom this time, instead of an anachronism from the Bronze Age.

The Alamanni are usually seen as a sub branch of the Suebi and the Alamannian territory since the end of the migration age became the Duchy of Swabia in Medieval times.

I don't think that you can say that Alamanni=Suebi. the Alamanni are referred to as enemies of the Roman empire from different times than the Sueves. When the latter enter Gaul and reach Spain, they are clearly smaller than and different from the Alamanni. These, in turn, fight the Ripuarian Franks for the control of the Middle Rhine valley - the Franks win. Later, the Franks unite and conquer the Alamanni. I think that the 'removal' of the Alamannic regional name within the kingdom of the Franks is to be seen as an insult to the conquered enemy rather than a recognition that the Alamans were in fact Sueves. In modern Germany, 'Schwäbisch' is a dialect related to 'Alamännisch'. Both belong to 'Westoberdeutsch'.

I thought the Suebi were a tribe in the late republican/early empire period?
