1st Century Cavalry Helmet Reproductions
#1
Who makes an authentic non-face-mask Cavalry helmet reproduction?
Does anyone have examples they can post pictures of?

Looking for best-quality for Cavalry re-enactment Impression.

I think the deepeeka one, with its embossed hair and other decoration is very acceptable, and an excellent bargain for the labor. It would cost 10 times as much if this same work was done in Europe.

I have had a few custom variations for our group, with different cheek pieces and tinned in different ways.

OK. Apparently there are not many sources for Cavalry helmets, other than a custom build.

Is there anyone who has purchased a Cavalry helmet, custom made, that can give me any insight on their experience?
I was rather hopeful that a brass/bronze decorated steel/iron version was available somewhere.

Thanks Dan for the Deepeeka reference. Is the Deepeeka Cavalry helmet capable of fitting a good size head? Could you send me the dimensions? Internal measurement from side to side and front to back?
I sent this request to 2 distributors who, apparently, do not wish to take the time to measure their helmets for me. Kinda' important that it fits!

You could try Terry Nix. I know he makes some things using coldcasting, and I don't know how they would hold up under practical usage, but maybe you should give him a call.

Depends where you go. I know suppliers that ask that much, and others who are far cheaper. The figure of 10 times for the whole of the European market is an exaggeration.

Salve Guys

I too am in the process of sorting out a cavalry impression. Have all sorted (including Molly the horse) except the helmet. Have had my eye on the Imperial Gallic face helmet by Deepeeka AH6049 - Do you guys think this would be suitable? I like its simplicity. I look forward to your comments.

Hi Primus

What do think of this Cavalry Helmet by Von Sussen...just for $299.00? http://cgi.ebay.com/1stC-AD-Roman-Caval ... dZViewItem

Looks rather good to me Big Grin
They are also selling two Deurne and a Ribchester Smile
However, I don't always notice the things that the experts would, ie cheek flaps are slightly wrong shape compared with the original, etc .....just the overall impression and look.
If I had more money (and space- no, I would make space) I would probably have a collection of cavalry helms....will have to make do with minatures.....

Avete, all. Just a comment on the helms. My experience with Deepeeka helms is that they run a little large. I wear a 7 1/2 hat size and they tend to be about 7 3/4 wide and 9 inches long. More than a little padding has been my experience. A note also on the Von Sussen helmets-Recently I purchased(tried to) a Gallic I/Aquincum from him. Only 1 e-mail after 5 days saying he received payment( I sent 4) then 5 days later he files a "non-payment" on me after he returns my money. Never any word or explanation.Lucky to get my money back,though.Valete,Andy.
